There are no normal screenshots or videos yet on the official page they are treated only with artistic illustrations.Īmong the new products temperature control and more voiced dialogues in the central storyline. Not going to judge the biome and creature diversity yet, but so far both are great.ISUBNAUTICA BELOW ZERO is the original Subnautica, players explored the ocean of the planet. Voices meanwhile are pretty quiet, despite boosting that setting. The jukebox you can build for example is insanely loud.
Despite tooling with the settings, I can't get it right. The sound mix overall is not to my liking. There are also some graphical glitches that mess with the colors and shadows. The audio can cut out or start repeating, which can only be fixed by restarting it. I also feel like some of the horror-ish aspects have been dialed back too much. Below Zero has a decent story so far, but it's set in the same planet and it's just not going to blow your mind in the same way. Obviously, the mystery of the original Subnautica was one of the cooler aspects of the game. I hated the cyclops and this new vehicle is like the perfect mix of seamoth and cyclops. That makes some different tools like the pathfinder actually useful. You'll also be doing a lot of cave-diving or spend time in narrow tunnels. There is some real level design in this one. That makes the world feel more handcrafted to me. There is no cyclops anymore so ultra wide tunnels weren't necessary. They also guide you and are placed so you can go quite deep right away. The oxygen plants have also been reworked, they're big and provide a set amount of oxygen. There are special fish now that can replenish your oxygen. + Below Zero has clever mechanics that ensure you don't have to go up for air as much in the early game. I was up and running very quick and after that I haven't been desperately looking for scraps of copper or quartz. Below Zero has a huge amount of limestones and other raw materials lying around all over the place. The game feels great when out of the water now and the range to pick up materials has been increased. The original could be a bit janky on controller (running was awful for example). + Speaking of playing on PS5, the console experience has been improved a ton. The original could look a bit cheap here and there, especially in some of the menu stuff. The level of detail has improved everywhere and the game has a very polished look now.
SUBNAUTICA BELOW ZERO MAP SIZE COMPARED TO THE FIRST OEN PS4
I played the original on PS4 and Below Zero on PS5. I'm a big fan of the original and I think this expansion/sequel tackles a lot of the bigger issues with the game. I'm playing this for review and so far it's incredible. If any of it is causing issues I can probably try take a shot at tidying it in the next couple days. I had to scramble a fair bit together on mobile and made a pass on desktop, but would have to redo lots of it and didn't really have the time available. Apologies for the font size being a bit too varied and images a bit small for desktop users.
